Celebrating Service to Community Cricket

We’re excited to share that Stephen Starks received the Cricket NSW Community Distinguished Service Award!

Stephen has been involved in cricket for more than four decades, with over 25 years of dedicated service to Kingsgrove Cricket Club. His contribution spans leadership, administration, coaching, and umpiring, making him a key figure in the club’s development and sustainability.

Stephen played a central role in amalgamating the junior and senior clubs at Kingsgrove, creating a unified structure that strengthened participation and improved pathways for players. As President, he introduced sustainable, fee-free social events that build community engagement. His efforts in recruitment and retention brought new players, parents, and coaches into the club, ensuring growth across all levels.

He is extremely generous with his time, going out of his way to facilitate children getting on the park on the weekend. Beyond administration, Stephen has coached junior teams, managed gear and logistics, and taken on multiple responsibilities to keep the club running smoothly. At an association level, Stephen has contributed through committee roles and governance, and as a member of the NSW Umpires Association, he has officiated in more than 200 Sydney Cricket Association matches.

Stephen’s values of generosity, reliability, and community focus are reflected in every role he has undertaken. His service was recognised with Life Membership of Kingsgrove Cricket Club in 2012, acknowledging his significant impact on the club and the St George region.

Stephen continues to give back to the game he loves, embodying the principles of fairness and inclusion that underpin community cricket.
