Early Life & Beginnings
Sam Konstas was born in 2005, in Kogarah, NSW. He has always been passionate about cricket! Growing up in a family with a rich Greek heritage, Sam's early years were filled with support and encouragement from his parents, Pamela and Jim, his older brother Billy, and his twin brother, Johnny. He attended Cranbrook School in Sydney, where he balanced academics and cricket, honing his skills on the field.
Journey with KCC
As Kingsgrove Cricket Club (KCC) celebrates Sam's debut and Test cap #468, we take a nostalgic look back at his journey with us:
- 2013: At just 7 years old, Sam celebrated his first premiership with the 10B team. Interestingly, his specialty at the time was leg spin!
- 2017: Sam, along with Raf MacMillan (AUS U/19 Rep), was selected for the Cricket NSW squads at the age of 11.
- 2018: Sam played in the 13A Grand Final, showcasing his growing talent.
- 2019: Sam and his twin Johnny celebrated playing in the senior 4th grade premiership. At 13, Sam was already competing against men, having started his grade career at St George Cricket and preparing for his dominance in the Green Shield.
Recent Achievements
Sam's cricketing journey has been nothing short of remarkable. In July 2023, he was named in the Australia under-19 team for a tour to England. He made his first-class debut against Tasmania in November 2023 and signed his first professional contract with the Sydney Thunder in December 2023. In October 2024, Sam scored his first century in first-class cricket against South Australia, making 152 runs off 241 balls. He followed this with another century in the same match, becoming the youngest player to achieve this feat in the Sheffield Shield since Ricky Ponting in 1993. His performance in the Prime Minister's XI against India, where he scored 107 off 97 balls, further cemented his status as a rising star.
On December 20, 2024, Sam was named in the Australian Test squad for the Boxing Day Test against India. He made a successful debut, scoring a rapid 60 runs.
